On April 6 at the annual award ceremony of the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) the 112 Georgia won the Innovative Service award for the SMS and video calls service. This was the third time the 112 Georgia had won the award for saving lives.
For 112 Georgia it is of crucial importance that any person should be able to connect the 112 service. So, 112 department introduced SMS and video call services in 2015.
The new service enables deaf and hard of hearing people to contact independently single emergency number 112. SMS and video call services are available for 24/7. The service is free of charge and covers the whole territory of Georgia. Calls are received by Georgian sign language operators. To apply the service, the pre-registration is required at www.112.ge
The project was implemented by support of the UN development program (UNDP) and the Swedish Government, in accordance with the EU standards.
EENA conducts the award ceremony in various countries on annual basis. Special awards are transmitted to specific bodies and organizations, dispatchers and emergency situation management centers that are actively involved in the 112 emergency service improvement and perception expansion efforts.
The awarding ceremony in Prague was attended by more than 600 delegates from 82 countries, including emergency assistance experts, European Parliament members, representatives of international organizations and associations.
After the completion of the ceremony the invited guests visited an exhibition to see modern technologies and achievements in the field of emergency assistance.
