Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Archil Talakvadze visited the Emergency Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and congratulated the 112th International Day on February 11. An event was held at the Emergency Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the occasion of the day. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and representatives of various extreme sports federations.
The guests got acquainted with the specifics of the work of the Emergency Management Center on the spot. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with the representatives of the tourism sector, which envisages access to 112 via the GPS tracker from the geographical area outside the coverage area of mobile operators. These “trackers”, which 112 purchased at their own expense, are intended for tourists and people moving to high-risk regions of Georgia.
The fight against domestic violence was named as the main direction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2015. Based on the content of the calls received on this topic, on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs, a letter of appreciation was awarded to 2 employees of the Center for exemplary performance of official duties and contribution to the effective work of 112.
The purpose of the 112 International Day is to raise the awareness of the emergency number at the local or regional level. According to the decision of the Council of Europe, February 11 was declared the day of 112 in 2009. Georgia has been operating a single emergency number for 3 years, and this number has been used throughout Europe since 1991.
